Dishwasher

POSITION OVERVIEW

Long Trail Brewery Pub (LTP) employees are an essential component of the visitor’s experience at Mass Bay Brewing Company, Inc. (MBBC). The Dishwasher is a part-time position reporting to the LTP General Manager. A Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning dishes in a food service environment to ensure that the kitchen has a steady supply of clean plates, bowls, silverware, pots, pans etc. Their duties include prioritizing loads of different types of kitchenware, hand-washing dishes, loading the dishwasher and placing dishes to dry.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Load, operate, and unload dishwashing machines.
    • Wash and rinse dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils by hand if necessary.
    • Scrub and scour pots and pans to remove food residue.
    • Sort and stack cleaned items appropriately.
    • Use the appropriate chemicals and equipment to sanitize dishes and kitchen equipment to prevent contamination.
    • Monitor water temperature and detergent levels to ensure effective cleaning and sanitizing.
    • Store cleaned dishes and kitchen equipment in designated storage areas.
    • Ensure that items are organized and easily accessible for kitchen staff.
    • Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area.
    • Dispose of kitchen trash and recyclables in a hygienic and environmentally responsible manner.
    • Replace trash bags as needed.
    • Help with receiving and storing food supplies.
    • Report any malfunctions or issues with dishwashing equipment to maintenance or management.
    • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of dishwashing machines.
    • Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries in the kitchen.
    • Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations, such as proper handwashing and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • Communicate with kitchen staff to ensure a smooth flow of clean dishes and utensils during busy periods.
    • Report any shortages of dishes or equipment to the management.
    • Work efficiently to keep up with the demands of a busy kitchen, especially during peak service hours.
    • Be willing to assist with various tasks as required to support the kitchen and restaurant operations.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the General Manager, Kitchen Manager, Assistant Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty.
    • Be able to work nights, weekends and holidays.
    • Closely follow direction without deviation

REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy trays or kitchen equipment.
  • Attention to detail to ensure cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Stand for Extended Periods: spending 8+ hours on your feet while working in the kitchen.
  • Lifting and Carrying: lifting of heavy pots, pans, containers, and kitchen equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending and Stooping: to access ingredients, stovetops, ovens, and low shelves.
  • Reaching and Stretching: Accessing ingredients and equipment on high shelves or in low storage areas may require reaching and stretching.
  • Manual Dexterity: precision with knife skills and the ability to handle small kitchen tools. Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Repetitive Motions: perform repetitive tasks, such as chopping, stirring, and plating.
  • Tolerating Variable Temperatures: Kitchens can become very hot due to cooking equipment, stoves, ovens, and open flames.
  • Coping with a Fast-Paced Environment: fast-paced, high-stress environment. Ability to work efficiently and stay focused during busy shifts.
  • Exposure to Steam and Smoke: steam, smoke, and sometimes grease.
  • Noise Tolerance: Ability to concentrate amid the sounds of equipment, sizzling, and communication with colleagues.
